Located at the heart of Paradiski, Peisey-Vallandry has over 420 kms of pistes to explore
History
Peisey is a traditional Savoyard village with a great history, where some two hundred years ago it was home to France’s national mining school. The area was at this time better known for its lead and silver mines which remained a prosperous industry in the area and mining was still carried on in La Plagne until as late as the 1960’s. You can put a hard hat on and visit some of the old mines of Peisey. The Savoie was also one of the main routes from France to Italy, and you can walk in the summer through the passes down to Courmayeur in Italy as part of the Mont Blanc circuit.
With the development of winter sports in the area, Peisey was reputedly the site of the first ski lift ever built in Europe in 1946 – you will be pleased to hear that this one has since been replaced!
Winter season
Peisey-Vallandry is at the heart of the 'new' Paradiski area, with over 420 kms of pistes and vast areas of off piste skiing to explore. It is a friendly family skiing resort situated at 1650 metres with bars and restaurants, a commercial shopping centre, butcher, bakers, cinema, ski schools, doctor's surgery, chemist and creches.
Peisey-Vallandry has 40 kms of its own pistes many of them through pine and larch forests, and thanks to the significant investment in 'canons de neige' over the past three years, you can ski down to the resort throughout the winter season.
Peisey-Vallandry is connected to Les Arcs which has over 200 kms of pistes with good skiing for all standards of skiers, a separate "Snowpark" for snow boarders, the breathtaking downhill "Km Lancé" off the peaks of the 3,200 meter high L'Aiguille Rouge – where the racers get up to speeds of 250 Kms per hour.
Peisey is linked by the new Vanoise express cablecar, a 200 person cabine, directly to La Plagne, which in turn has over 220 kms of pistes with good skiing for all standards of skiers, and offers some of the best off-piste skiing in Europe high on the Bellecote glacier, and just above the pretty village of Belle Plagne.
Peisey is one of the gateways to the Parc National de la Vanoise, where there is over 40 kms of cross-country skiing and where the French National Biathlon Championships are held.
